GDC Awesomeness (Day02) Booth Babe Edition

(This blog is blurry-image intensive... I didn't take many of these *COUGH* ARI)
It's been awhile since I've been to one of these expos, like 10 years. Back then, it was E3 a couple years in a row. Lots of booth babes, like a boat show.
Since a couple people have asked about it, I decided (rather selflessly) to look into the "Booth Babe" phenomena and investigate an alleged trend that the game industry, GDC in particular, has phased-out the booth babes mostly, taking sort of a politically correct, non-exploitative stance on the matter.
Let's get to the bottom of this!

Some mainstream companies, N-gage shown here, seem to still abide by the belief that beauty sells. Very Nice!
Sadly, that was about it for the traditional booth babe paradigm. So I begin to wonder...
"What makes a true Booth Babe at GDC 2009?"

Are mocap actor/dancers the new booth babes? With about 6 mocap solutions demonstrating their products, you would think so. But no...too much clothing, total 'A' for effort though.
We searched high and low for the real-deal...

Yes, those are zombie chicks infecting me and eating guts. TOTALLY AWESOME!!! Still not exactly what we're looking for....
We finally made our way to a remote corner of the north hall and ran into GreenEar, makers of a sweet, scalable, easy to implement in torque, VoIP package. We integrated it into Ruin Online, no problem.
Their staff was friendly and well versed in their own product. There's a refreshing change!
Could the new booth babe have beauty and brains? We're getting closer.

Thanks again GreenEar, great product and support.
Well, as we work our way back to the GG booth, which was busy almost the entire time for the first 2 days. I realized that not another booth had MORE variety of content than GarageGames. I mean, one engine company didn't even have video of their engine.... just go home! Walk into the GG booth, you can immediately get sucked into any one of the numerous titles, projects, engines, feature demo's etc... And the GG employees did not seem to have a minute to breathe. I didn't get everyone's name, but Mich, MattF, Derek and Deborah where basically rocking non-stop...
T3D KICKS ASS!!! Now the world knows it too. When you see Sickhead's south pacific island demo running with your own eyes.... you will need a towel. Don't worry, you are in good hands if you go forward into this T3D era.
Thanks again to Deborah, your efforts were appreciated by many of us!
Wait a minute... Booth Babes. Deborah Marshall... yeah, we got ourselves a winner boys!
The new build of the booth babe 2009 models.... Brains, Beauty, sparkling personality, and the skills to back it up!

Proof Deborah has "got your back!" (well, mine at least)

"Hooray!" Thanks for the awesome time and the opportunity, it was great. Keep it real.
Now on to Day 3.

Good to see that SOMEBODY knows what's important at GDC.

It was silvery-white, yes. And that was the first booth by the entrance to the North Hall, so you see them every time you walk in and out. Happy greets ;)

There are two kinds of people in the world, those who do the half press and those who don't. Those who do, despise the advent of digital cameras coz you have to wait that half second and usually miss a good shot :)

Re: Mad camera skilz - No you gotta do the half press and wait for the beep thing mate :) Then the camera is ready to take a photo. In seriousness, thanks to BrokeAss Games, Ted Southard, Paul Dana, Perfect Dork Studios, Stickman Studios, and Tandem Games for coming out. You guys really made the booth rock HARD this year. :)

Vampires don't reflect in mirrors. Ponder about how that statement might be related to my blurry picture. Ponder...and fear for your soul.In seriousness, thanks to BrokeAss Games, Ted Southard, Paul Dana, Perfect Dork Studios, Stickman Studios, and Tandem Games for coming out. @Brandon: We're doing a lot of post-GDC recovery work, but we'll aiming to have GDC videos up by the end of the week. One problem we're snagging into is that the audio quality on some of the videos is poor due to the packed nature of the booth, so we're working on that issue now.

Thanks first off for your hard hitting investigative journalism into the dying breed of booth babes. It was hard work, I'm sure, but you really got to the heart of the issue. ;)
Also, huge thanks for all the plugs, shout outs and for the implications that we might have brains. It's all very sweet. I can't tell you how many times I got, wait you actually WORK here!? and did you just answer a legitimate question and say the word 'latency'!? I thought people would know that we weren't booth babes by our lack of one piece body suits...maybe next year.
