Name Dropping

What’s in a Name?
Well I guess it depends on the names. Two weeks ago, I mentioned some of the names that created memories for me at past GDCs. I’d like to share some more names with you.
We’ve been hiring. In fact, we’ve hired a lot. Lou has us working on some ambitious goals. In order to achieve them, he’s helped us attract some great names with some great cred. Their influence on our practices, quality level, and drive is helping us to achieve more with every day. While I could write volumes about their experience, I think their credits speak for me. They are rock stars and we are lucky to work with them here in Vegas.

It would be, hands down, the greatest thing ever for torque if you guys used T3D to make a huge AAA hit....but only if those additional tools/code changes/new features etc. make their way down to the T3D licensees.

I am really interested to know if you are going to be using T3D to achieve these "ambitious projects". Xbox Live Indie Games have been going pretty well, Zombies just passed 200k sales, many others are in the 50-100k range.

Does this mean we'll start seeing some new development in the Torque tools to facilitate RTS development?
I'm also thinking that hiring mugs like that has to cost a pretty penny. Should we expect price hikes to fill their pockets with [insert your favorite video game currency here]?
And...yeah...Henry's right...Indie Games is doing well and could benefit from some upgrades focused on Torque X.

Anyone else detecting some heavyweight RTS talent? :)Does this mean we'll start seeing some new development in the Torque tools to facilitate RTS development?

Do I see our own version of CNC coming soon with this new lineup? Hmmm looks like since EA's final CNC game is nearing shipping, and we have a great RTS crew on board now, I would expect the RTS kit to get a major overhaul? Sounds like something for us to watch for... Great lineup btw. Congrats.

Some of our "ambitious goals" are Torque based, some are not. I'm proud to say; however, that the studio is working closely with our products ( I'd say more, but I'd be speaking publicly for them without their permission ).
Let's leave it at this. We've got bona fide AAA talent within feet of our desks. Their presence influences the way we work, think, and undoubtedly raises the standard of quality. For example, Elie has been working with the guys from Luma for the past two weeks.
In my working past, I was a developer on an engine whose design was driven by a single game. This is a really unhealthy thing for an engine. A game driven engine is counter to a well abstracted and robust engine.
I am truly proud that these guys are working with Torque. Eating our own dog food has been a tenant of our company since the beginning; but I think it's important to note that we don't want to let any single game compromise the engine for all our customers.
Now don't get me wrong, there is something to be said about a game putting an engine in the spotlight -but that in itself doesn't make the engine better from a technical perspective.

HA, just kidding. And yes, I'm really just kidding.
I for one welcome the new folks coming in. Very impressive list and I am sure they will fit in with the rest of the gang at Torque Powered.
Just watch out for Matt. He's a Samurai that can and will cut you in half.
Last time we met on the forums I lost my left arm as a warning......
@John - You just made my day. Would I be part of that group for testing?
Looking forward to GDC!!!
The future is so bright I gotta wear shades...

Reunions and revivals are the norm nowadays :-) But when I'm not thrilled knowing that Take That is getting back together, I sure am when I read here that many of the old hands of Westwood are joining this party. Waiting with anticipation on cool things to come...
