Plan for Josh "GimpMaster" Hintze

Hey guys, I haven't posted for a little while. I figured I would just take a minute to let you know what I've been up to. In my last plan I mentioned that I was working on a game much like IGI 2 mutliplayer. This is still the plan although sometimes I feel like I'm working alone...I'm sure that happens in a lot of community projects. Oh well.
So I was thinking that I would like to get some nice models into the game...especially weapons (getting tired of the crossbow). I searched through the artist packages through the torque store but there wasn't much that really fit. With the soldier pack you get a single weapon but I want more. So i followed the website to the soldier pack and ended up at Tridinaut. I noticed that they had a weapons pack for modern day weapons.....not just medieval. Score! Although there was just one problem. They were all 3DS weapons. So that gave me an idea.
Perhaps if I contacted Tridinaut and made a deal with them i could get the weapons for free and give them back something. So I wrote an email to the main contact email address striking a deal that if I got the weapons pack for free I would export them as .dts shapes and do all that stuff. Nermin, the weapons pack creator agreed! We also decided that to make the modern weapons pack more useful that I would scale them and place the mount points such that it looked good on the soldier pack.
So that was a month an a half ago and I'm finally finished with all the weapons (like 12 i think). Took a while to get used to the art pipeline but now I feel more confident in it.
So what do you get with the new weapons pack?
- All weapons are exported to .dts shapes
- Weapons have bounding boxes and collision boxes for pick up
- All weapons have 3 LODs ranging from like 1300 polys -> 300 approx
- All weapons have mount points, muzzle points (for muzzle flashes), and eject points for bullet case ejections
- The weapons packs have all the setup and heiarchy in .max files (studio 7) so you can change things easily
- Scaled to fit the soldier pack and have been tested in game and torque show tool pro
So yeah thats about it. Just wanted to mention to people to take a chance as I did and try to strike a deal. It got me some free weapons and I learned a ton more about 3D studio then i figured I would ever need to as a programmer. Also Nermin and Tridinaut are awesome so support them so they keep pumping out more 3D art for us who are less inclined.
By the way, my game IGI 3 (soon to be renamed) is coming along fine. At times I do wish i had more help, especially artists 2D/3D. So come drop by and say hi in the forums if you feel like it.
