I'm looking for a partner

by Chris Labombard · 01/23/2006 (5:18 pm) · 25 comments

Ok, here's the deal. I am an excellent coder and have, thus far, been a one man team. I basically have NO art talent and it's killing me. The cost of contracting out artwork is (in my opinion) rediculous and it has recently been made clear to me that my best artistic efforts will never pass as art.

What I'm looking for is an artist who's as dedicated and as efficient as I am. An individual who can do 2D and 3D art and has a huge imagination.

You'll have more then just creative freedom. You'll be in charge of the look, theme and art of the games we produce as well as helping to choose what game ideas we pursue.

I don't want to be anyones boss here. What I'm looking for (and really need) is a partner in crime.

If you have even the slightest incling to persue this then post in the forums and let me know. (Alternatively you can email me Chris at spunkygames dot com)

The first game that you'll be working on is The Funk (It's in need of a makeover). Check out my last .plans to get an idea what it's about.

Contracting art out can be expensive sometimes, but a lot of artist make a living that way. Best of luck to you. :)

I have been talking to Chris about The Funk since he posted his first demo. GarageGames will be publishing this product. It is a very fun game that needs some art love.

Good luck with your quest

Im more an artist than a coder.
I have a pretty solid, attainable ideas.
Any chance the Partnership could work the other way around?
And you help code for my title?

Surge - You are not the first person to offer that today :)

I am only interested in finding someone to partner in my business. I have too many great things on the go to leave it now.

I feel your pain at being a one-man-team needing art. I would love to help you if my artistic skills didn't give programmer art a bad name. Good luck!

To be honest, I wouldn't mind helping you either but my art skills has been neglected in favor of music and sound design for many years now. Actually, I was never really that good of an artist to begin with. Only decent. I've been playing around latley and I'm starting to get better, but there are way better artists out there that can do way more than me.

Good luck finding an artist Chris. Somebody smart is going to go for this chance and the rest are going to be kicking themselves when they realise what a dumb move not jumping on this was. This is a hard core guy who delivers the goods and just needs an artist with dedication and vision who wants to be a huge success someday... soon. :) Good luck again Chris! Wish I were a good enough of an artist for you myself. I know that you'll find someone soon... if there are any smart artists out there. :)

Travis - No it's not for pay (sorta) ... I'm offering roylaties and the chance to work on a game that is being published, as well as becoming a partner in a business that's building fast.

I've found a couple of reliable people to work on the art for The Funk... Now all I need is a business partner to work on future games with.

It's a great opportunity. I've already shipped a game, this will be the second and I'm about to (after I find a partner) put the next one in the works.

I wish i was a better artist, so i could offer my services. This is the same kind of dream i had, to have a "partner in crime" so to speak. But Currently, i'm just on my own. I'd love to say that i would be your partner, but again, mediocre skill, at best.

Exactly. That's alone is the reason I would jump on the chance to work with Chris. He's foreal. I wish he needed a music composer and sound designer as a partner as bad as he needs an artist.

i am working on Project Raven and have offered to teach many guys 3d from scratch... in exchange for them working on the game...

Most lose interest... getting good art guys is real hard... the only ones i would reccommend charge already :/

getting good workers is hard full stop...

i'd join up meself if i werent heavily involved in PR and busy with college.. (game college that is)....

the best i can offer is teaching what skills i have to yourself via email?
(barrygallagher (.at.) projectraven . Com)

think of it as a distant plan b.. and Good Luck!

Barry - Thank you for the offer. I have a very difficult time putting anything I see in my head onto paper or pc and am pretty much useless when it comes to art. I can do a little, but I really can't do anything creative.

My point here is, I'm in contact with someone who is interested in becoming a partner but it leary of his skill. Would you be willing to give him a leg up? Help him develop his skills, answer his questions, etc? He seems like he'd make a great partner (same attitude and drive as me) but needs to bring his work up a notch.

Marketing and PR are one area I was hoping to be able to pass on to my new partner (when I find one)... If you change your mind and want to give it a go with me just let me know., My email is in my profile.

heh..sorry.. i meant PR as in Project Raven .. though i do study game marketing briefly at college.. which covers PR..
two terms that make up marketing.. "marketing mix" "promotional mix" ..case your interested.. thats a whole 2 pages worth of reading and it covers the essentials..

as for helping your new guy.. sure! .. i've got direct experience with torque as far as art goes..
helping a guy tru email is fairly low on time consumption... i got msn etc.. pass my email on and inform me of his problem areas? .. the core of 3d is in 3 parts ...modelling,texturing,animation.. or is he merely having trouble exporting to torque?

im making a game in college aswell for the end of year which is required to pass.. so i couldnt really take another game on.. i made a promise to stick with Project Raven til completion aswell...

exporting is not an issue. I have experience doing so myself. We'll see what happens and I'll get back to you.
