How to repeat a texture on a model?
by Adam Zeliasz · in Torque 3D Public Discussion · 10/08/2009 (7:18 pm) · 37 replies
Lets say I have a texture that's 512x512 on a polygon square model. If I stretch out that square to make a rectangle in Torque 3D, how can I tell the texture to repeat along the X axis? Can I do that in T3D, or do I need to do all the stretching/texturing in Softimage?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Good to know, thanks.

@Adam: Did you figure this out? I have spent the last 2 days trying to get this to work with mod tool 7.5 with no results.

Any solutions?

I still can't get assigning UV repetition to work. I have a rock wall that's UV'd, I assigned my own material through Softimage and repeated the texture image. But when I export it through COLLADA the repeat doesn't work. I did create a material inside T3D and I'm using the Rocks1.jpg example for the terrain. Any solutions?

I had the same problem using trueSpace, though if I modify the UV space, like what would happen in a UV mapping situation, it works fine. I would say to create a texture map, or maybe if you feel like experimenting, modify the UV space in a way that would naturally tile any texture thrown at it (not sure if you can do that in Mod Tool, but with trueSpace, I scaled a box UV projection down, and saw the coresponding change in UVs when I imported it into T3D).

I think someone from the development team uses Softimage. May I ask how you do it?

I rather not change the UV's or resize the texture so it tiles accordingly. Any other solutions? I think someone from the development team uses Softimage. May I ask how you do it?

None that I know of, though if someone has gotten an app to do tiling without making a UV map, I'd be interested to hear it too.

Personally I think it would be best in the T3D Material Editor, having the ability to repeat it as we see fit.

try exporting as collada, works perfect in maya. set the repeat in material inside maya. export as collada, repeat appears in engine. i checked the material.cs its not in there. its embedded into the collada file somewhere. i can send you the .dae if you want to study it and see if you can figure out how to insert it manually.

I can't get it to work in Softimage.

i know the only 2 collada plugins are for max and maya. other apps may have an exporter, but not all the features may be supported or translated properly. try messing with the export options. but it does work with the fully supported apps.https://collada.org/mediawiki/index.php/COLLADA_-_Digital_Asset_and_FX_Exchange_Schema

Maybe someone from the dev team can download the trial and give it a shot and see if you have a solution?
Thanks!

Softimage does have a COLLADA exporter but I can't seem to get it to work. I can't even get the textures to export out. Maybe someone from the dev team can download the trial and give it a shot and see if you have a solution?
Thanks!

Crosswalk Installs
its very easy to install just install it and it sets everything auto to work with Softimage.

softimage has a COLLADA extorter you just have to update Crosswalk to 3.3. your useing the older version of Softimage and it don't have the Crosswalk at 3.3 yet. Crosswalk Installs

In the meantime I'll download Crosswalk 4.1 and see if that helps.
Thanks.

Well Crosswalk 4 is installed. It came with 2010. COLLADA is 1.4.1. What's your work-flow Brandon if you wouldn't mind sharing? Maybe I'm missing a step...In the meantime I'll download Crosswalk 4.1 and see if that helps.
Thanks.

i also have ambient connected to image but i don't think that would not make it work. :P i always keep the stock export for collada because it works perfect.

turn off selection only when you export and tell me if that works.i also have ambient connected to image but i don't think that would not make it work. :P i always keep the stock export for collada because it works perfect.

@Adam and Brandon: What version of Crosswalk are both of you using?
