Market Research

by Chris Labombard · in General Discussion · 05/19/2005 (4:59 pm) · 20 replies

Hey... Continuing the ongoing market research.

Anyone know of any games that were based around comedy? I want to analyze as many games as I can that are similair to my own.

So far I have:

South Park (N64)
Sam and Max hit the road
Armed and Dangerous
Paper Mario 2

I've never played any of those games... I have read about 20 reviews for each.

Feel free to suggest an additional way to do market research, besides reading the reviews. I've never done this before you know.

Conker's Bad Fur Day. Farce, parody, and it's also adult humor. Some of the parodies are .... awesome.

Zak McKraken (sp?) ... the old SCUMM game. There's an updated verion on the net somewhere. Maniac Mansion probably works here too.

Giants: Citizen Kabuto had some great comedy moments in it. Unfortunately the game is as ropey as hell and crashes randomly but whilst it's running, it's not a bad game.

The Space Quest games, Grim Fandango, classic Leisure Suit Larry games, The Neverhood, the new Bard's Tale has a good mixture of somewhat funny lines and horrible try-too-hard moments. Jak and Daxter has some fun stuff in it as well.

There is a thread on games with humor in them here. Not a lot of posts but a couple more games for you to look at.

The "Earthworm Jim" had a good sense of humor. The main character was an artificially evolved earthworm running around in a high-tech alien suit of armor. He could swing from one place to another using his OWN BODY as a swing line, rode giant hamsters, caught flying cows... Kooky stuff. I suspect heavy drug use among the designers, but can't prove anything. ;)

It was made by Shiny Entertainment (creaters of Enter the Matrix, Sacrifice, MDK, several others).

I am more interested in games that are focxused on comedy, rather then games with humour in them.. If you know what I mean ;)

@Mark - I used to play earthworm Jim...

No One Lives Forever by Monolith... but thats more a game with humor than a game centered on humor.

Yes... I have done a full evaluation of armed and dangerous, based on 20 or so online reviews I found.

Oh ya... I did an entire evaluation on that one as well... probably 30 reviews were studied....

I did 3 full evaluations like that, which took about 4 hours each... Concurs bad fur day, armed and dangerous and paper mario 2
