How to get the Linux version

by Paul Reitz · in Torque Game Builder · 01/29/2007 (2:37 pm) · 10 replies

Maybe this is a stupid question, but I've looked all over for the Linux version and all I can find is "supported by the community". So, where do I find this version?

Two choices;
1) Read through this forum, apply fixes to the 1.1.3 tree, compile and run
2) Use 1.1.1

Sorry about that, I wasn't too clear. I was wondering how I get the Linux version of TGB. One of the reasons I purchased TGB was that there was a Linux version. I keep seeing that it is "community supported", but I can't seem to find this "community".

Yes. The community is here, on this forum. A small handful of hardcore linux users, mainly.

There's an official linux release of 1.1.1; if you want the latest version, you'll need to either get it recompiled by someone here, or download and compile it yourself.. at least until GG get around to doing a release themselves.

Please excuse my frustration. I have no problem compiling it myself. but...where. do. I download. it. from.!!! Is there a link, maybe. Do I need to buy the "pro" version to get the link? what?

You will find downloads to all your products purchased here.

Am I missing something obvious? I know about the purchase list. It provides me with a link to the Windows and Mac version, but not Linux.

Under the picture on the left, it says "click here to view downloads for all operating systems". Click on the graphic of the OS symbols, and you should have links to Win, Mac, and Linux...

I'm a PRO user, so I see everthing... perhaps there isn't a non pro release for Linux...

Looking at the dated version that is there for Linux (1.11), I see the zip file doesn't contain a pre-compiled binary. This is probably why there is no version listed for you. It would be nice to see them clear that up as they do mention on the TGB page about the Linux version being community supported. I'm sure it wouldn't take much for someone to pass along a binary to GG so they can provide a zip for the non-source code users of the engine.

It looks like I'm going to have to upgrade. I wish I'd known this before....The binary only costs $100, the pro version costs $250, and upgrading from binary to pro is $195. This means that I get to pay $295 for a product that costs $250. In other words, it's going to cost me an extra $45 because I didn't just buy the pro version in the first place. :(

Paul you may have figured this out by this time but in case you haven't. Go to the link shown by Keith click on Download. Download the latest windows release and run the installer with wine. Move the Torque directory where you want it then compile from source after applying the patches shown elswhere in this forum. That will give you the latest 113 release.
