Is TGB what I'm looking for?

I want to make a 2D RPG using layered pre-renderd backgrounds to give the appearance of 3D. Similar to what was done in Final Fantasy 7 except I will be using 2D sprites for the characters instead of 3D models. Can TGB do this? Also, I do not have much experience with programming. If a game like this is possible with TGB will it take me years of learning a programming language to pull it off?

If you have no programming experience though, I would suggest that you start out slow, pick something easy to help you learn programming, then once your comfortable, attempt to tackle your first of many attempts at making an RPG ...
Good luck!

The Adventure Kit is a definite 'must have' for any TGB user -- even if your not making an RPG, the code within it is invaluable to learning how to do some things in TGB ... I am having excellent success with this. I prefer to render out my tiles and characters though. Check my blog..err .plan

Torquescript is easy to use, but if you have no programming experience, learning to program isn't easy regardless of language. I'd suggest trying out the TGB demo, giving a few tutorials a whirl, and see if you understand the scripts.
Good luck!
