Paypal or Piracy?

I read about the TGE on a gamer site and while checking it out it was awesome,
now ive been selling stuff to actually afford it. Just a few minutes ago i was convinced and was going to buy the engine and the RTS content pack, then i see you can't pay with Paypal?! What the ****?!
So i searched the forums and i saw a topic back from early 2005 saying that you should add the option
later that year. Now its almost 3 years later and NOTHING has happend.
Paying with Paypal is my only choice so i can't use either credit card or money order and that is for private reasons. I thought such a big site like GG had more options of payment, really im pretty stunned right now.
Now you leave me with no choice than to ilegally download this program, such a shame.
Are you ever planning on adding support for Paypal or will it be another 3 years and still nothing has happend? From what ive seen in demos and such the engine is wonderful and im pissed off good
that i can't pay with paypal...

If you were going to pirate and engine that you couldn't legally redistribute, why not pirate the Source leak? Especially if you're going to be all dramatic about it. Pirating an indie engine is kind of like cracking milkshape. It's rather ineffectual and pointless to talk about. No one is going to be excited. GG isn't going to institute Paypal as a last ditch effort to stop you from downloading it from a piracy torrent. Might as well torrent GameMaker or crack passwords on GMail to send other people's mail invites.

You do have a choice. But for some reason you're making some huge dramatic statement as if GG is forcing you to pirate their engine because they don't support your favorite payment option. Do you also threaten to steal the chef's cookbooks at a restaurant if they don't accept checks? It really makes no sense. There is no logic to what you are saying. If you were going to pirate and engine that you couldn't legally redistribute, why not pirate the Source leak? Especially if you're going to be all dramatic about it. Pirating an indie engine is kind of like cracking milkshape. It's rather ineffectual and pointless to talk about. You should be able to find pre-paid credit cards at most major chain stores. While they will have store-only cards, a number of them should have general VISA/Mastercard/etc cards as well. You could also talk to your bank and GG to negotiate a wire transfer. There are Swedish dev's here. Actually, there are a lot of European devs for all over.

1.right to publish your first game
2. help from the community
3. access to the TDN, which has tons of resources to help you with the game
4. access to the private forums. ( has the source code for many ways to modify the engine.
Its illegal, why waste all of you time on something you cant publish. It just doesn't seem worth it.
Some people have said on the forums ( that have illegally downloaded it ) they have problems with the engine, there is a hidden virus in it, or its missing some of the source code.
Well if its missing the source code good luck trying to figure it out and when you ask for help on the forums and it doesn't show you are an SDK owner people won't help you unless you post it in the private forums which you wont have access to.

To the OP: so easy to fry you friend. I mean you dont even make it difficult. Listen, I'm going to do you a huge favour here... If you can't figure out how to get a pre-paid CC you are not going to be able to figure out Torque. I mean no disrespect to you I just want to help you, and the rest of us, by not having to force you to write more of these types of posts and us not having to read them ;)
I am generally not elitist or an asshat (Some folks will disagree.. Meh..) but I honestly urge you to calm down, really think closely about what you are doing.. attempting to make a game.. with a game engine... that requires weeks and months of work and study.... If you can't figure out how to do the transactio to purchase the engine I think you must agree with me that perhaps game develop is just not in your future.
If I am mistaken and a day or 2 from now you manage to get a CC and purchase Torque I welcome you to the community and hope this temporary lapse of judgement was one of those "freebies" we all get once in a while. (Or daily in my case).
All the best in your endeavors. (Aside from the blatent acts of piracy obviously.)

It's not that i can't get an pre-paid CC it's just that i have had some problems earlier in my life with shopping, that's why i can't open any types of cards anything like that, my "good man" (not sure what to call it but the woman that is operating my money) has agreed that i can have pay with a Paypal account ONLY when im buying something that i can't get in stores (like Torque), i also need to say what im buying and only then will she transfer the exakt amount of money to my account.
The fact that i can't use Torque cause of that i can't get a CC is ridicoulus,
im mainly getting Torque as a hobby as i got a lot of time at home.
Im not much for coding really, more for 3d stuff and level design.
Also, Paypal wont let me open a debit card, here's why:
At this time the PayPal Debit Card is offered only in the United States. We hope to offer the PayPal Debit Card to more of our community in the future.
Ah well, quess i'll just have to move on to something else, thanks for the help atleast!

It sounds like you've taken the shortest route more than a few times in your life, thus your current financial/legal/(incarceration?) situation. Take a minute, figure out how to overcome the obstacles. It will be a great growing exercise, and in the end, you'll be able to spend all the time you want with us smartasses ;p

Why can't your money holder purchase Torque for you, with your money, in your name?
How about a friend or family member with a credit card?

If you're looking at a non-programmer-friendly engine, you could check out Unity or BeyondVirtual or Lawmaker. Unity requires a Mac as your dev machine. But if you look around, you should be able to find a lot of information. Just make sure to do your research, read the forums for the products, and talk to people who have purchased them. I own licenses for all of them and have a pretty good understanding of the tech. If you need a push in the right direction, just e-mail me.

Do people even think about what they are doing when they are on the internet?
12/07/2007 (6:47 pm)
Mallex, as far as I read, I see that you can not get a credit card because you have allegedly scammed in your past. This is a good reason as to why you should not be using Torque. If you cant even take responsibility to use a credit card then I see no reason for you to have the option of buying torque, in which you probably would just scam them to. Now, if you knew anything about life in its whole you would know that you are never left with only one option, and saying that because you cant buy it means you pirate it is just ridiculous and stupid. So you think you have no way to buy it, NEVER GET IT. You are stuck. If you cant pay for it you cant have it. Its that simple. Now, last time I checked piracy was illegal, unless you think you are above the law. And thats grounds for being arrested. If I was the owner of GarageGames I would have half a mind to sue you right now for piracy/stealing. And you blatantly admit this over the internet, which would give me easy evidence. Do people even think about what they are doing when they are on the internet?

There's no need to start a useless flamewar about something that is moot. I'm closing this topic.
Good luck with your endeavors, Mallex. If you need anything, don't hesitate to contact me.

He's mentioned why, apologized for the tone of the first post, and is looking for an engine that fits his needs. Perhaps it will be Torque after talking to GG. Perhaps it will be another engine. There's no need to start a useless flamewar about something that is moot. I'm closing this topic.
Good luck with your endeavors, Mallex. If you need anything, don't hesitate to contact me.
