Selling Pack on GG site
by Ron Kirkland · in Site Feedback · 04/14/2008 (8:13 pm) · 13 replies
I'm trying to get some information on a 'high level" overview of the rules, terms, etc of selling content packs on the GG site. I emailed a couple of different GG emails, one setup for that purpose, but havent heard back..
Can someone assist?
Thanks!

I think GG gets 50% of the revenues for things they sell for you, so you might want to just post links in the forum and keep it updated. 50% is of money to be giving away to someone for work they weren't involved in to begin with.

Also percentages are negotiable depending on a number of factors such as exclusivity and such. As I said before, contact us and see what happens. There's nothing saying that you *have* to go through us or that you *can't* go through multiple venues (unless *you* decide on exclusivity).
50% may seem like a lot until you begin talking to traditional publishers about publishing your game. Then you begin praying that you get to keep your IP *and* break even for your dev costs. Usually you just hope to break even since you have no hope of keeping your IP.
Content packs are different beast, though. Most traditional publishers have difficulty seeing the value in content packs. It is not just publishers, though. There are a lot of traditional developers who see content packs as a waste or time and money. There are a lot of artists and prototypers out there, however, who see them as necessary for either revenue or drawing developers to their projects.

It's a lot less than many other publishing venues and portals, though more than portals that simply skim off the top such as Renderosity/ContentParadise/Daz3D, etc; though they are not quite the same target. They usually work within a render-only model rather than a usage model; and often the artwork that is available on those sites is developed specifically with rendering in mind. Unreal 3-crippling models and textures designed with procedural rendering as the output model. Also percentages are negotiable depending on a number of factors such as exclusivity and such. As I said before, contact us and see what happens. There's nothing saying that you *have* to go through us or that you *can't* go through multiple venues (unless *you* decide on exclusivity).

David is completely correct in that everything depends the project. Royalty rates and upfront purchases of different types of content is completely negotiable. Please contact Derek Bronson to start a conversation. I know he's been thinking a lot about getting more great content packs on our site.

Necro'd by a spambot I reckon... unless I'm missing something the post is totally meaningless in the context of the thread.

For future reference, anyone who is interested in selling a pack on the site should e-mail 3rd Party Product Manager, Derek Bronson, at derekb@garagegames.com.
